OUTLINE The Blues, as a musical branch, as a chant against the oppression, as a singing to love and suffering, or as a way of life, has been kept to the present and continues spreading in such a way that it has crossed the borders of North America, where it was born, becoming a strongly influence for musicians of the whole world. Mexico, our country is not the exception and a clear example is the blues movement that is currently developing, with the participation of several blues groups that carry out an exhaustive work to spread the culture of blues in Mexico. La Rambla is a blues band whose main goal is to get anywhere with its music, in a concept that can be defined as "Blues made in Mexico or mexican blues". The music of La Rambla includes classic blues and rhythm & blues with fussions of rock, providing with this a touch of originality. La Rambla’s repertoire consists of original songs with lyrics in spanish, including themes with common and daily topics, handling a simple, understandable and straightforward language. Their repertoire includes also some interpretations of what are considered as the classic themes of the blues. Their music is based mainly on the Chicago blues, but united to the variety of influences of each one of their members. La Rambla has appeared in diverse forums, cultural events, meetings and festivals of blues, being specially important the following ones: Tianguis Cultural del Chopo, Museo Universitario del Chopo of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, massive concerts at the Zocalo and Monumento a la Revolucion in México City, Route 61 Hoochie Coochie Bar, Restaurant-bar Déja Vú, Quimera and Luminaria Festivals, Festival of Jazz of the Mexico City, and they participated in the " International X Festival Aguas-Blues " in the city of Aguascalientes in Mexico. La Rambla also participates every year in the organization of the Pozos Blues Festival, carried out in Mineral de Pozos Guanajuato. La Rambla has appeared in different important mass media in Mexico. Some of them are: “El Blues Inmortal” of Radio UNAM, “Por los Senderos del Blues” of radio IMER, a TV program produced by TV UNAM, some interviews by the Milenio and La Jornada news, and mentions of the band in the magazine La Mosca, among others. La Rambla has recorded three albums of original songs: “La Rambla”, “Del Blues al Rock” and “Eres tu Solo Blues”. Also, has participated in three coupled albums with other rock an blues bands. The most recently was a tribute to BB King where other bands from the AMBlues organization participate. |
